LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE 2003

General Remarks
The Late Bottled Vintage 2003, is a blend of merlot (47%), cabernet sauvignon (36%) and cabernet franc (17%) from the Wooldridge Creek Vineyard in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon. Brix at harvest in late October, 2004, was 24. Grown at an average altitude of 1500 feet asl at one of the coolest sites in the valley, the grapes ripened slowly and retained a crisp acidity which underscores the berry and plum characteristics in the finished wine. Residual sugar is 9%; alcohol by volume is 18.9%. Eighteen months in neutral oak with ullage of 2-3 inches maintained. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Notes
Opening with a hint of violets and cinnamon, the LBV ‘03 exhibits a mid-palate of ripe blackberry and spice. With a year-plus of bottle age a milk chocolate mid-palate has emerged, as well. A hint of orange rind and caramel on the finish confirms the late bottled vintage style. The LBV ‘03 is ready to drink now. It pairs beautifully with mild blue cheese.
Bottled in May 2005 in a 500 ml format, ten barrels were made. $26.
